Dahlias Year-Round: a workshop series

 

 

Back by popular demand in 2026!  Join Dooryard Dahlias and our collaborators at Merryspring Nature Center for this 4-part workshop series.  Participants will learn how to care for dahlias throughout the year, from spring planting to winter tuber storage and everything in between.  Topics will include:

Weds. April 15, 2-4PM - Winter: Waking up your tubers

• An overview of dahlias followed by a workshop on waking up tubers, rooting shoots and starting seeds. Take home a dahlia shoot and potted seeds.

• NOTE: This introductory session runs for two hours, from 2-4PM

 

Fri. May 22, 3-4PM - Spring: Early season plant care

• We will cover the basics of planting and staking, how to pinch young dahlia plants to get more blooms and how to scout for pests and disease.

 

Fri. September 18, 3-4PM - Summer: Handling & maximizing blooms

• Learn when & how to harvest blooms to maximize vase life, encourage longer stems, and keep your plants blooming.

• Following the workshop, enjoy an exclusive opportunity to pick your own bouquet at Dooryard Farm!

 

Fri. October 16, 3-4PM - Fall: Lifting, dividing & storing dahlia tubers

• Demystify tuber dividing and discuss methods for storing your tubers for next year. Learn how to save seed so you can grow your own unique dahlias.

LOCATIONS:  Merryspring Nature Center and Dooryard Farm

• Winter session meets at Merryspring, 30 Conway Road, Camden.  Meet at the office. 

• Spring, Summer & Fall sessions meet at Dooryard Farm, 238 Mechanic St, Camden.  Meet at the farmstand. 

 

WHO:       This workshop series is geared towards dahlia growers and would-be growers with minimal experience, but also open to more experienced dahlia enthusiasts.  There will be something for everyone!

Refunds: If you need to cancel, please notify us by email no later than April 3, and we will refund your tuition minus a $25 non-refundable deposit.  Cancellations after April 3 will not be refunded.  Thanks for understanding.
